Kansas City, Missouri

The last time we were here it didn't last long.  We intended to spend two or three days however, a cold blast of arctic air came in.  It was supposed to stay in the mid 30s which was fine with us.  However, it dipped into the teens, our pipes froze so we hightailed it outta there.  THIS time we were here in April instead of November and had higher hopes for our visit.  We were not disappointed.  It turns out Kansas City is a delightful place to visit...not too big.  We stayed in a mobile home park which we don't usually do, but it had high ratings.  The owners are moving out mobile homes as people leave the park and want to convert it into strictly an RV park.  It was very clean and tidy and we had a grassy area right behind our site that seemed like our own private park.  Maizy liked it as she could bark at deer, cats, or rabbits.

When we arrived our "host" let us know they don't let just ANYBODY in their park.  She specifically mentioned "those ball people".  We realized she meant anyone who comes to town to watch the Chiefs or the Royals.  :)  Who just happen to have a decent park but cannot compare in ANY way to the view at ATT park in San Francisco.

These poor people look out at a freeway when they watch their team!  But having one parking lot for two venues seems smart.

We visited the Money Museum at the Federal Reserve Building.  There are only 12 reserves in the country.  It was very interesting to see money from the very beginning of our country's history as well as a gold bar.  We could watch folks count, sort, stack and destroy money behind the glass plated windows but you could not take pictures of that.  They also stored money via robots that would come into the sorting area and remove the money to the vault.  Again, no pictures of that allowed.  :(

There was art throughout the building but only one piece was displaed in the area we visited.  I thought it was just a nice tapestry...turns out the artist included aspects of a mathematical progression called the Fibonacci sequence.  Yeah...I don't know what that is either!  but here is the tapestry....

We love to explore restaurants and find different new kinds of places to eat.  One was called Pigwich - raves touted it as the best burger in the world.  It was good.  As we hunted for it I was sure the GPS had us going into the wrong side of town.  It was a very industrial area but it was indeed the correct location.  Fun but not sure we would go back.  We did make a bason/sausage purchase in the charcuterie (fancy word for butcher shop) called The Local Pig which was right next door and provides the meat for the Pigwich burgers.  The bacon was...eh...ok.  Sausage yummy.  And I did buy the t-shirt because it had the emblem of the very cute pig that decorated the front door.

On that illfated November visit a year ago we did fit in a visit to another famous restaurant Oklahoma Joe's.  This establishment is famous for BBQ.  We knew we wanted to go there again.  We discovered it is now just called Joe's bbq.  It is located in a gas station and as before there was a line to the door and that line continued until we left.  Still yummy and worth the drive.

  1. C'mon! You know Fibonacci! It's the integer sequence, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8,... where each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. It's found in a lot of art and nature, usually represented by varying sizes of adjacent shapes.

  2. KC looks like a good time... and tasty... seems like you ate well. Probably had to lower your expectations for food in Moab huh?
